The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully managed a significant fire incident at a warehouse owned by Peace Trading Company located in Oyibi Sasaabi-Gbortsui, along the Oyibi-Dodowa road on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. The fire, which engulfed a substantial portion of the warehouse, posed a significant threat to the stored goods and surrounding properties. The rapid response and effective firefighting strategies employed by the GNFS personnel played a crucial role in containing and eventually extinguishing the blaze, preventing further damage and potential casualties. The incident underscores the importance of efficient emergency response systems and the dedication of firefighters in protecting lives and property.

The chronological sequence of events reveals the swift action taken by the GNFS. Upon receiving the distress call at 1:36 p.m., the fire service immediately dispatched two fire engines from the Dodowa and Katamanso Fire Stations. Recognizing the potential scale of the fire, they also secured the support of three private water tankers from Oswal Construction Ltd. This collaborative approach ensured adequate water supply, crucial for combating the intense blaze. The first fire engine arrived at the scene within seven minutes, highlighting the promptness of the response. The firefighters’ efforts resulted in confining the fire within an hour, bringing it under control in just over two and a half hours, and fully extinguishing it in under three hours from the initial alarm.

Despite the rapid response and effective firefighting, the warehouse suffered significant losses. The fire consumed a variety of stored goods, including assorted paints, furniture, bedsheets, and diagnostic equipment. The destruction of these items represents a substantial financial setback for the Peace Trading Company. However, amidst the material losses, the most crucial outcome was the absence of any casualties. The swift action of the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading further, potentially endangering lives and causing more widespread damage.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and investigations are underway to ascertain the origin and contributing factors. Determining the cause is crucial for implementing preventive measures and mitigating the risk of similar incidents in the future. This investigative process will likely involve a thorough examination of the warehouse site, interviews with witnesses, and analysis of the fire patterns. The findings will be instrumental in enhancing fire safety protocols and raising awareness about potential fire hazards.

The Tema Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS commended the Dodowa District Fire Commander, DO I David Hojisky, and his team, led by ADO I Damsah, for their professionalism and swift response. Their coordinated efforts and effective firefighting strategies were instrumental in containing the fire and preventing its spread to the entire warehouse and adjacent properties. The recognition highlights the dedication and skill of the firefighters in managing the challenging situation and minimizing the overall impact of the incident.

The GNFS’s successful management of the warehouse fire exemplifies the crucial role of a well-equipped and trained fire service in safeguarding communities. Their swift response, effective firefighting techniques, and collaborative approach with private entities demonstrated their commitment to protecting lives and property. While the fire resulted in significant material losses, the absence of casualties underscores the importance of efficient emergency response systems and the dedication of firefighters in mitigating the impact of such incidents. The subsequent investigation into the fire’s cause will contribute to enhancing fire safety measures and preventing future occurrences.
