Mr. Kwabena Agyepong, a Senior Aide on Dr. Mahmmud Bawumia’s campaign team, recently emphasized the importance of religious tolerance for maintaining peace in Ghana. Speaking at a meeting in Adaklu Abuadi with local chiefs, religious, and traditional leaders, he praised Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, for running an inclusive campaign that reaches out to all segments of society. Agyepong urged political figures to refrain from exploiting religious sentiments during the campaign, as this could lead to division and unrest. He characterized Dr. Bawumia as a unifier and a humble leader who promotes harmony among various religious groups and traditionalists alike.

During his speech, Mr. Agyepong highlighted several impactful initiatives introduced by the NPP government under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, such as the free Senior High School program, the Ghana card, the digital address system, the School Feeding Programme, and the National Health Insurance Scheme. These initiatives are designed to enhance the lives of Ghanaians and reflect the government’s commitment to development. He urged citizens to rally behind Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming elections, asserting that a strong vote would empower the NPP to continue its projects and elevate the nation to new heights.

The gathering also featured Togbe Gbogbi Atsa V, the President of the Adaklu Traditional Council, who welcomed Dr. Bawumia to the constituency. In his remarks, he called upon political leaders to ensure that their behavior and rhetoric foster peace throughout the electoral process. He expressed gratitude for the developmental strides made by the NPP government but urged for more attention on local issues in Adaklu, such as the unfulfilled promise of a school bus for the local Senior High School. This highlights a disconnect between central promises and local needs that could impact voter sentiment.

In his address, Togbe Gbogbi also brought attention to pressing infrastructure issues in the region, specifically the deteriorating conditions of the Adaklu Tsriefe-Adaklu Waya-Adaklu Torda road, warning that if left unaddressed, these roads would render communities isolated. His comments underscore the need for the government to prioritize regional requests and ensure that development reaches all areas of the country uniformly. Such infrastructure is vital for connecting communities and enhancing their overall access to services.

Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia took the opportunity to introduce Mr. Bright Nyatsikor, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Adaklu constituency, encouraging the chiefs and community leaders to support him in the upcoming elections. The presence of key figures including Dr. Archibald Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, and various party executives highlighted the significance of the gathering and the NPP’s concerted efforts to secure votes in the Volta region, a politically sensitive area for the party.

The Vice President’s tour of the Volta region, which also included visits to areas like Hohoe and North Tongu, focused on not only gaining voter support but also reinforcing the achievements and challenges faced by the government in recent years. By connecting with local leaders and addressing community concerns, Dr. Bawumia aims to solidify the NPP’s presence in a region that has often leaned toward opposition parties, thereby enhancing the party’s chances in the upcoming elections.
