GOIL PLC recently celebrated the impactful tenure of Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh, who stepped down as the Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director after five and a half years of service. The occasion was marked by an annual thanksgiving service in Accra that brought together board members, staff, dealers, transporters, and representatives from regulatory agencies to honor his contributions. Mr. Reginald Daniel Laryea, Chairman of the Board, underscored the significant role Mr. Osei-Prempeh played in steering the company through periods of growth amidst challenges, particularly noting the difficulties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021. His leadership transformed GOIL into a critical player in the Oil Marketing sector, trusted by various state-owned institutions and agencies.
Under Mr. Osei-Prempeh’s leadership, GOIL achieved notable milestones, such as the establishment of a multimillion-dollar Bitumen plant in collaboration with SMB of La Côte d’Ivoire. This initiative aims to enhance the supply of bitumen for road construction, thereby contributing to the expansion of the nation’s road network. Additionally, Mr. Osei-Prempeh oversaw the formation of GOIL Upstream Limited and signed a Joint Operating Agreement with Planet One Oil and Gas Limited for operations in the Deepwater Cape Three Points Block. These accomplishments highlight his commitment to positioning GOIL at the forefront of the oil marketing and petroleum sector within Ghana.
In his farewell speech, Mr. Osei-Prempeh conveyed heartfelt appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve through GOIL, reflecting on his journey in a role that he described as both “wonderful” and “challenging.” He recalled that upon his appointment, GOIL was operating with a single major subsidiary, GOEnergy. Over the years, the company expanded its portfolio significantly, introducing GoBitumen and GOIL Upstream, as well as undertaking the ambitious GOIL Cylinder Recirculation Model, which included constructing two LPG filling plants in Tema and Kumasi.
He paid tribute to his predecessor, Mr. Patrick Kwame Akorli, who helped commission five modern auto gas stations, and remarked on the company’s growth from 300 operational outlets in 2019 to 450, which encompassed 160 company-owned stations. Mr. Osei-Prempeh expressed gratitude to the boards he worked with, including those led by Mr. Kwamena Bartels and Mr. Reginald Laryea, as well as the leaders of GOIL’s subsidiaries, particularly the board of GO Energy chaired by Mr. Akorli. His acknowledgment of the dedication and collaboration from the management and staff highlighted the team effort that underpinned the progress during his tenure.
The thanksgiving service also featured performances by notable artists such as Uncle Ato and the Daughters of Glorious Jesus, along with GOIL’s in-house choir, the GOILY Voices. The event was attended by distinguished church leaders, including Bishop Yaw Owusu Ansah, Prophet Christopher Yaw Annor, and Prophet Atsu Manasseh. Various organizations, including the GOIL Fellowship, the Association of Shareholders, and COPEC, presented tributes, citations, and gifts to commemorate Mr. Osei-Prempeh’s contributions, demonstrating the high regard in which he is held within the community and industry.
In summary, Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh’s legacy at GOIL PLC is characterized by transformative leadership that fostered growth and innovation during a challenging era. His initiatives not only strengthened GOIL’s market position but also contributed to the overall development of the country’s oil and gas sector. As he bids farewell, the collective gratitude from stakeholders recognizes his significant role in not only expanding the company’s operations but also in enhancing its reputation as a vital player in Ghana’s energy landscape. The transition to a new leadership era marks both an end and a new beginning for GOIL, with the company poised to continue its journey of growth and sustainability.
