A New Chapter for Apapa-Iganmu LCDA: Councillors Urged to Prioritize Residents’ Welfare

The Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Nigeria, has ushered in a new era of local governance with the inauguration of its 6th Legislative Arm. The proclamation ceremony, held at the Hon. Dr. Funmilayo Akande Mohammed Legislative Chamber, marked the beginning of a fresh mandate for the newly elected councillors, who were charged by the LCDA Chairman, Jimoh Saliu, to place the welfare of residents at the forefront of their legislative duties. Saliu’s address emphasized the importance of service, collaboration, and transparency as essential values for effective representation of the community. He underscored that the councillors’ election signified the trust and confidence bestowed upon them by the people, urging them to honor this trust through diligent, dedicated, and principled service.

The chairman’s message went beyond the ceremonial aspects of the occasion, delving into the core responsibilities and expectations of a councillor. He emphasized that the role transcended mere office-holding and required a commitment to servant leadership. Councillors, he asserted, must be attentive to the voices of their constituents and work tirelessly to address their needs. In this capacity, they serve as the voice of the community, and their decisions directly impact the future of Apapa-Iganmu. The chairman’s words resonated with the importance of community engagement and participatory governance, encouraging the councillors to forge close ties with community leaders and actively involve residents in the decision-making processes. This collaborative approach, he emphasized, is crucial for tackling the challenges facing the LCDA.

Saliu’s call for unity echoed throughout the chamber, urging the councillors to work together harmoniously and to prioritize the welfare of residents in all their endeavors. This collaborative spirit, he stressed, would be instrumental in realizing the potential of the LCDA and achieving meaningful progress for the community. He further implored the councillors to embrace their responsibilities and make decisions that would positively impact the lives of the people they represent. This new chapter, he emphasized, requires collective effort and a shared commitment to the betterment of Apapa-Iganmu.

The inauguration also witnessed the emergence of the House leadership, with Adigun Arogundade (Ward C) elected as Leader of the House. Saheed Ajetunmobi (Ward B) assumed the role of Deputy Leader, while Bolaji Lawal (Ward G) was appointed Majority Leader. Toheeb Adisa (Ward A) and Omotayo Amina (Ward F) were selected as Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip, respectively. The selection of these leaders marks the formation of the legislative structure that will guide the council’s work in the coming term.

Arogundade, the newly elected House Leader, addressed the gathering, assuring the Council Chairman and the community of the House’s commitment to harmonious collaboration with the executive arm of government. He pledged to work closely with the Chairman and fellow councillors to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Apapa-Iganmu. Arogundade emphasized that the House’s focus would be on cooperation and collaboration, not conflict, to effectively serve the community’s best interests. His words reinforced the importance of a unified approach to governance and the shared responsibility of both the legislative and executive branches in achieving progress for the LCDA.

The proclamation ceremony, overseen by the Clerk of the House, Uthman Saheed, marks the formal commencement of the 6th Legislative Arm’s tenure. It signifies a renewed commitment to local governance and sets the stage for the councillors to fulfill their mandates and address the needs of the Apapa-Iganmu community. The chairman’s charge to prioritize residents’ welfare, the House Leader’s pledge of collaboration, and the overall emphasis on unity and community engagement set a positive tone for the new legislative session, offering hope for a productive and impactful term of service for the benefit of Apapa-Iganmu’s residents. The newly elected officials now have the opportunity to translate their campaign promises into tangible actions and work towards the betterment of the community they serve.
