WOI Elorm John Ahiakpor, along with Silas Amewonye, Farouk Nuodio, Daniel Kwesi Obiri Yeboah (also known as Aljazeera), and Michael Nana Addo, face serious charges including conspiracy to commit robbery and kidnapping, as well as the actual robbery and kidnapping of a Dutch national, Lodewijk Frederikus. All five defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them in front of Judge Samuel Bright Acquah. Their legal representatives, Andy Vortia and Carlos De-Souza, presented bail applications arguing for their clients’ release, highlighting their lack of prior offenses and the need for a fair hearing.
In presenting his argument, lawyer Andy Vortia emphasized that WOI Ahiakpor, who has had a commendable 24-year career in the military, poses no flight risk and should not be subject to remand. They reportedly demanded a ransom of 15,000 Euros for his release. In a desperate bid to regain his freedom, Frederikus negotiated with the accused, ultimately offering 5,000 Euros. The kidnappers, however, insisted on 8,000 Euros and pressured Frederikus into transferring funds into their accounts. They provided him with bank details, revealing the predatory nature of their demands.

When he hesitated to transfer the full ransom, four of the defendants, excluding Amewonye, physically forced him at gunpoint to a Stanbic ATM, coercing him into withdrawing 6,000 Ghanian Cedis.
