The Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) has reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility and community development through its latest project: a new 3-storey multi-purpose building at the Yamfo College of Health in the Ahafo Region. This facility, which cost GHC 2,775,649, houses six fully furnished 80-seater lecture halls, 12 offices, a staff common room, a computer laboratory, a library, and two demonstration laboratories. This inauguration represents not only a significant investment in educational infrastructure but also highlights NADeF’s ongoing impact in providing essential amenities to local communities.
At the inauguration ceremony, the Chairman of NADeF’s Board of Trustees, Professor Yaw Fosu Kusi, expressed gratitude to all contributors involved in bringing the project to fruition. He emphasized that the event was a celebration of NADeF’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and social services in its partner communities. Since the Foundation’s inception in 2008, it has focused on implementing developmental projects that meet the needs of the local population, reflecting its belief in fostering long-term benefits through active community engagement.
This new building marks the third significant project NADeF has executed for the Yamfo College of Health since 2015, following the establishment of an administration block and an assembly hall. The continued investment in the college underscores NADeF’s commitment to education and local development, which are crucial for the growth of communities surrounding Newmont’s operations. The recent construction not only facilitates educational delivery but also provides a conducive environment for learning and professional training, which is essential for the healthcare sector in the region.
The Acting Sustainability Manager of the Ahafo North Project, Oduro-Kwarteng Marfo, highlighted NADeF’s impressive progress across the ten communities it serves. He noted that since 2008, the Foundation has awarded scholarships to over 10,000 community members, demonstrating its commitment to educational advancement and skill development. This initiative has allowed numerous individuals access to education that might have otherwise been unattainable, thereby contributing to poverty alleviation and the overall upliftment of the communities involved.
Mr. Allotey Solomon, a representative of the Principal of the College, acknowledged NADeF’s ongoing support and expressed appreciation for its contributions that have significantly improved the institution’s infrastructure. He further appealed for continued assistance, indicating a strong desire for further collaboration to enhance educational facilities and resources. This sentiment reflects the importance of partnerships between educational institutions and development organizations in promoting community growth and ensuring the sustainability of such initiatives.
In conclusion, the inauguration of the multi-purpose building at the Yamfo College of Health signifies NADeF’s unwavering commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and quality in the Ahafo Region. By fostering a strong foundation for learning and providing scholarships, NADeF is making a lasting impact on the lives of many individuals, ensuring that local communities benefit from enhanced educational opportunities. These efforts not only pave the way for skilled professionals in the healthcare sector but also reinforce the importance of corporate social responsibility in contributing to the development of host communities.
