Nasco Feeding Minds has consistently focused on adding value to local communities, with a particular emphasis on dissuading individuals from engaging in irregular migration in search of better opportunities abroad. The organization recognizes the challenges that individuals face when considering risky migration routes, often fraught with peril and uncertainty. To tackle this pressing issue, the foundation has initiated impactful projects centered on digital literacy education, aiming to equip individuals with valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance their economic opportunities locally. By providing education and resources, the foundation aims to create a foundation for sustainable development, thereby reducing the allure of migration for better prospects.
On November 22, 2024, Nasco Feeding Minds made a significant stride in its mission by launching Nascoffee, a new initiative aimed at promoting locally produced coffee to the global market. This ambitious venture is designed to bolster local economies and enrich the lives of community members by providing an avenue for generating income through coffee production. The initiative has garnered considerable attention and support, having received a seed investment of 1 million Euros. The profits generated from Nascoffee will be channeled into supporting Nasco Foundation’s digital literacy programs, thus creating a self-sustaining loop of economic empowerment and educational advancement.
The launch event for Nascoffee was attended by notable guests and stakeholders, including the foundation’s Founder and Co-founder, Ousman Umar and Banasco Nuhu Seidu, along with prominent figures from various organizations. Among those present was Jon Uriarte, the President of Athletic Club Bilbao, and Victor Nicolas Redondo Sierra, the coordinator of Nasco Spain, who provided vital backing for the initiative. The presence of industry leaders and other influential figures underscored the potential that Nascoffee has to forge invaluable partnerships and networks. Chief Moomen, the Creative Director of Bambu Heritage Productions, along with several senior staff members from Nascotech, were also present, reflecting a diverse coalition of support for the new venture.
Arturo, an investor from Impact Bridge, highlighted the alignment of his company’s values with the objectives of Nasco Feeding Minds during his remarks at the event. He expressed the belief that businesses play a pivotal role in fostering prosperity and development within communities, indicating that collaboration between government and private enterprises is vital for sustainable progress. Arturo’s sentiments resonated with the overarching philosophy of Nascoffee, which seeks to develop a professional and effective business model while addressing social issues. His commitment to adding value through entrepreneurial initiatives showcases the potential impact such collaborations can generate.
Moreover, Nascoffee Inc. is deeply committed to sustainability and economic empowerment, particularly by sourcing coffee beans from smallholder farmers, predominantly women, in the Leklebi area of the Volta Region. This approach not only supports local agriculture but also promotes gender equity by empowering female farmers who are often marginalized in economic activities. By focusing on sustainable sourcing and fair practices, Nascoffee aims to develop a strong local supply chain that benefits both producers and consumers. This model ensures that the community reaps the rewards of its labor, creating a supportive ecosystem for growth and development.
The celebratory launch of Nascoffee culminated in a vibrant evening marked by cocktails and an exhilarating performance by Bambu Heritage Productions. The presence of dignitaries such as Maria Aviles, the Deputy Ambassador of Spain to Ghana, alongside representatives from the US Embassy, added an element of prestige to the occasion. Their involvement not only signifies international interest in the initiative but also reinforces the collaborative spirit that underpins the foundation’s efforts. This memorable night not only celebrated the launch of Nascoffee but also emphasized the ongoing commitment of Nasco Feeding Minds to enrich local lives through innovative solutions that address migration challenges and promote economic self-sufficiency. Through such initiatives, the foundation hopes to inspire a new narrative around local development that prioritizes the talents and potential of community members.
