The 2024 Ghanaian general election witnessed a significant shift in political power, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerging victorious. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC’s National Chairman, embarked on a thank-you tour across the Bono Region, expressing profound gratitude to the chiefs and people for their instrumental role in the party’s resounding success. He emphasized that the victory was a collective effort of Ghanaians determined to bring about change and wrest control from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The tour served as a platform to acknowledge the hard-fought nature of the campaign and to celebrate the shared commitment that led to the NDC’s triumph. Nketiah’s message resonated deeply within the region, reinforcing the sense of unity and purpose that propelled the NDC to victory.

The newly elected Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, Madam Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, echoed the call for national unity. She stressed the importance of collective action in the nation’s reconstruction process, emphasizing that every Ghanaian has a vital role to play in building a more prosperous and inclusive future. Her message emphasized the shared responsibility of all citizens in shaping the nation’s destiny, regardless of political affiliation. This call for unity underscored the need to move beyond partisan divisions and work together towards common goals.

In Sunyani East, Mr. Seid Mubarak, the newly elected MP, expressed his gratitude to the electorate for their trust and support, which ended the NPP’s 28-year hold on the constituency. He pledged to work closely with the communities to foster socio-economic growth and development, prioritizing local needs and aspirations. Mubarak’s victory signaled a significant shift in the political landscape of the constituency and marked a new era of representation. His commitment to community engagement reflects the NDC’s broader focus on grassroots development and responsive governance.

Nketiah’s thank-you tour extended to Berekum East, Berekum West, and Tain constituencies, where he engaged with party supporters and traditional authorities, reiterating his appreciation for their unwavering support. These interactions emphasized the importance of local engagement and demonstrated the NDC’s commitment to building strong relationships with communities across the region. The tour served as a platform for dialogue and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to addressing local concerns and priorities.

In his hometown of Seikwa, Nketiah received a warm welcome from Osabarima Debra Adjei II, the Paramount Chief, who presented a list of key development priorities for the incoming NDC government. High on the agenda was the urgent need to improve critical road infrastructure, including the Berekum-Seikwa, Seikwa-Nsawkaw, and Seikwa-Sampa roads. These infrastructure improvements are vital for connecting communities, facilitating trade, and enhancing access to essential services.

The Paramount Chief also advocated for the establishment of a police headquarters in Seikwa Township to address the escalating crime rate and enhance community safety. This request highlighted the importance of security and underscored the need for effective law enforcement to maintain peace and order. Furthermore, he urged the NDC to prioritize the completion of abandoned projects at the Seikwa Nursing Training College, emphasizing the importance of investing in education and healthcare to build a stronger and more resilient community. These requests reflected the community’s aspirations for improved infrastructure, enhanced security, and greater access to education and healthcare. The NDC’s responsiveness to these local needs will be a key indicator of their commitment to serving the people of Seikwa and the broader Bono Region.
