New Hall International School, located in Lekki, Lagos, achieved a remarkable victory at the 2024 Lagos ODG Football tournament, which concluded recently at White Sand, Lekki. The tournament, organized by ODG Sports Entertainment Ltd., sought to promote sports as an effective pathway for Nigerian youth to demonstrate their athletic prowess while chasing opportunities for success in sports. The New Hall team showcased exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination, remaining unbeaten throughout the competition and ultimately clinching the championship title.

Under the guidance of their coach, Henry Iwuanyanwu, New Hall’s performance was outstanding, highlighted by a series of dominant victories. They delivered a comprehensive 4-0 triumph over Atlantic Hall and followed that with a commanding 3-0 win against Kings College. Their most striking display came in an overwhelming 8-2 victory against Attwool School, which solidified their status as a force to be reckoned with in the tournament. The team continued their impressive showing with a hard-fought 5-3 win over Dowen College and managed to secure a 1-1 draw with the host team, White Sand School, demonstrating their resilience and competitive spirit throughout the event.

One of the standout performers of the tournament was Kamal Elegushi, who earned significant recognition for his contributions to the team’s success. He was awarded multiple honors, including Best Player of the tournament, sharing the title of Highest Scorer with Pere Nicholas, and securing the Best Goal Assist award. His outstanding abilities on the field not only showcased his individual talent but also played a crucial role in the team’s overall performance, illustrating the importance of individual excellence contributing to the success of the collective.

Coach Henry Iwuanyanwu expressed immense pride in his team, commending their hard work and tenacity. He emphasized that the victory was a testament to the players’ exceptional character and skill displayed throughout the tournament, as well as the commitment and dedication of the entire coaching staff. His recognition as Coach of the Tournament further highlighted the impactful leadership and strategy he provided. Additionally, the tournament recognized other exceptional talents among the competing teams. Chisomaga Ogbonna from New Hall International School clinched the Most Disciplined Player award, reflecting not only his skill but also his sportsmanship and commitment to teamwork. In contrast, the best goalkeeper honors went to the goalkeeper from White Sand, a recognition of his crucial role in defending against opponents and contributing to his team’s performance throughout the tournament.
