This case involves a violent attack on a sub-chief, Mutala Yayaa, in Darkuman Cable, Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Yayaa, also a trader residing in Darkuman, was reportedly assaulted with a cutlass, axe, and scissors while visiting the area with his errand boys. The attack occurred on September 10, 2025, around 4:30 pm, near a location known as Bolga. Nine suspects, identified as Bernard Tagoe, Eric Nii Martey, Michael Lokko, Felix Adu Mensah, Habib Gusamu, Solomon Assan, Kwame Khalid, Jacob Addy, and Gideon Arthur, have been apprehended and remanded into police custody by the Adabraka District Court. These individuals, with various occupations including mechanic apprentice, bookman, painter, driver, tiler, and driver’s mate, reside in Abossey-Okai, Darkuman, and Bubuashie. Four additional accomplices remain at large, and police efforts are underway to secure their arrest.

The incident began when Yayaa and his entourage arrived at Darkuman Cable and Wireless to greet acquaintances. Upon reaching Bolga, the accused individuals confronted Yayaa, challenging his authority to be present in the area with his group. They ordered him to sit down, a command he refused. This defiance triggered the violent assault, leaving Yayaa with severe cuts on his head and body. Following the attack, a report was filed with the Darkuman police, who issued Yayaa a medical form and instructed him to return after receiving treatment.

The case, initially investigated by the Darkuman police, was subsequently transferred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Accra for further investigation. Yayaa returned with the endorsed medical form on September 11, 2025, leading to the arrest of the nine suspects at their hideout. During interrogation, all accused individuals denied involvement in the attack. The police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects to aid in the ongoing investigation and to build a more comprehensive picture of the events leading up to the attack.

The suspects have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime—specifically causing harm—with the use of a cutlass and a pair of scissors. They appeared before the Adabraka District Court, presided over by Mrs. Abena Owusu Omenyo. However, their pleas were not taken, as the case requires further investigation. The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, informed the court of the ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining accomplices. The court remanded the nine suspects into police custody, pending further investigation and the apprehension of the other individuals involved.

This incident highlights the importance of thorough investigations and the pursuit of all involved parties in cases of violent crime. The severity of the injuries inflicted upon Yayaa underscores the need for a comprehensive understanding of the motives and circumstances surrounding the attack. The remanding of the suspects allows for a more detailed investigation and the potential for gathering further evidence. The continued efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are crucial for building a complete understanding of the events and ensuring that all those responsible are brought to justice.

The case will likely proceed with further court appearances as the investigation unfolds and more evidence is gathered. The outcome will depend on the evidence presented and the court’s interpretation of the facts. The pursuit of justice in this case will serve as a deterrent to future acts of violence and contribute to maintaining peace and order within the community. The apprehension of the remaining suspects is a critical step in this process and will contribute significantly to a complete understanding of the events and the motivations behind the attack. The focus remains on the victims and their recovery as the legal process continues.
