The residents of Oduda Nnewichi community in Nnewi North Local Government Area, Anambra State, celebrated the completion of vital infrastructural projects spearheaded by their council chairman, Echezona Anazodo. These projects, primarily a robust drainage system and a strategically engineered water channel, aim to mitigate the perennial flooding that has plagued the community, causing extensive ecological damage, erosion, and significant disruption to the movement of goods and services. The swift execution of these projects, completed a mere 16 days after the chairman’s initial promise, has garnered widespread commendation from the community, who expressed profound gratitude for his commitment to addressing their long-standing challenges and delivering tangible dividends of democracy.
Prominent community leader and businessman, Chief Cletus Ibeto, officiated the commissioning of the projects. Beyond the completed works, Chief Ibeto also inspected other ongoing initiatives under the current Nnewi North LGA leadership, expressing marked satisfaction with the observed progress. He affirmed his unwavering support for Chairman Anazodo, pledging to match any unfulfilled promises with double the resources. This commitment underscores a shared dedication to the community’s advancement and a collaborative approach to ensuring its continued development.
Chief Ibeto highlighted the significance of the drainage and water channel projects in addressing the long-standing erosion and floodwater issues that have beleaguered parts of the council area. He emphasized the comprehensive nature of the solution implemented by the Nnewi North LGA leadership, specifically referencing the construction of a resilient bridge and a reinforced channel, coupled with an expansion of the floodwater track. These measures are designed to bolster the stability and sustainability of the bridge, which had previously succumbed to the destructive forces of flooding. The chairman’s proactive intervention has not only restored the vital link but also, according to Chief Ibeto, redefined the standards of local government administration in Nnewi.
Following the commissioning, Chief Ibeto also inaugurated a new market project, further solidifying Chairman Anazodo’s commitment to community-focused development. He commended the chairman for prioritizing projects that directly benefit the people, reflecting a genuine understanding of their needs and aspirations. Recalling the devastating impact of past ecological threats, particularly the loss of homes, goods, and properties during periods of heavy rainfall, Chief Ibeto urged the community to rally behind the chairman and support his efforts to deliver on his promises of progress and improved living conditions.
Chairman Anazodo, speaking during the commissioning ceremony, reiterated the primary objective of the projects: to combat flooding and erosion, which had displaced residents and resulted in substantial material losses. He detailed the swift action taken by the Nnewi North LGA administration, following a thorough assessment of the affected site conducted just two weeks prior. The collaborative efforts of the chairman and the supervisory councilor on works, Amobi Adukwulu, enabled the rapid implementation of the drainage and channel solutions, effectively mitigating the immediate crisis and providing much-needed relief to the community.
Chairman Anazodo underscored the administration’s unwavering dedication to serving the people and fulfilling the mandate entrusted to them. He emphasized their commitment to timely project completion, demonstrating a focus on tangible results and efficient resource management. The commissioning ceremony was attended by key community stakeholders, including the President General of Oduda community, Ikechukwu Obi, the President General of Nnewichi Community, Chief Surge Egbuna, and the President General of Nnewi, Chief Jude Osumuo. These leaders echoed the community’s sentiments, praising Chairman Anazodo’s focused leadership and the positive impact of his initiatives. In addition to the Oduda Nnewichi projects, Chief Cletus Ibeto also commissioned the Ukwaka Bridge in Umudim Nnewi, another critical infrastructure project aimed at alleviating the strain on a vital link road frequently impacted by floodwaters. The collective impact of these projects signifies a significant step towards enhanced community resilience and improved quality of life for the residents of Nnewi North LGA.
