Advocacy for Ja’oji’s Ministerial Appointment: A Call for Recognition and Regional Representation

A coalition of northern Nigerian youth groups, operating under the banner of the Coalition of Arewa Youth Groups, has formally appealed to President Bola Tinubu to consider appointing Nasir Bala Aminu, widely known as Ja’oji, to the position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. This appeal, articulated in a statement released in Kano, underscores the group’s belief in Ja’oji’s capabilities and the importance of regional representation in the federal cabinet. The group emphasizes Ja’oji’s contributions to youth development, philanthropy, and education, portraying him as a figure deserving of national recognition and responsibility.

The coalition’s plea is rooted in the significant support the All Progressives Congress (APC) received from the Northwest geopolitical zone, particularly Kano State, during the 2023 general elections. They argue that appointing someone from this region, particularly Kano, which delivered the highest number of votes for President Tinubu, would be a fitting gesture of appreciation and acknowledgment of the region’s political significance. This appeal for regional representation reflects the political dynamics of Nigeria, where balancing regional interests within the federal government is a critical aspect of maintaining national unity and stability.

Ja’oji’s qualifications, as highlighted by the coalition, extend beyond his political affiliations. He is lauded as a “voice for the voiceless youth across the North,” whose dedication to youth development earned him recognition from the Emir of Daura, who bestowed upon him the title of Adon Garin Kasar Hausa – “The Jewel of Hausa Land.” This title signifies his standing within the community and the respect he commands. Furthermore, his current role as a member of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Potiskum, Yobe State, further demonstrates his commitment to education and capacity building.

The coalition emphasizes Ja’oji’s philanthropic endeavors, highlighting his scholarship programs for students within and outside Nigeria. This focus on human capital development aligns with the mandate of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, further strengthening their argument for his suitability for the role. They portray him as a philanthropist whose programs are characterized by “global best practices,” suggesting a modern and effective approach to addressing social challenges.

The youth groups further emphasize Ja’oji’s political acumen and influence. His name, they claim, “rings a bell” within the political class and among the grassroots, suggesting his ability to connect with both the elite and the electorate. This connection with the grassroots, the “owners of real and genuine votes,” underscores his perceived political value and potential contribution to the APC’s future electoral success. They portray him as a figure who understands the needs and aspirations of the people, making him an effective representative within the government.

The coalition’s appeal concludes with a strong assurance to President Tinubu that appointing Ja’oji would be a decision he would not regret. They emphasize Ja’oji’s capacity, political will, and unwavering loyalty to the president, portraying him as a dependable and committed ally. This expression of confidence aims to alleviate any potential concerns the president might have and solidify their case for Ja’oji’s appointment. They present him as an individual who embodies the qualities necessary to effectively address the challenges of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation in Nigeria, making a compelling case for his inclusion in the cabinet. The coalition’s appeal, therefore, represents a carefully crafted endorsement of Ja’oji, highlighting his qualifications, experience, and political value in an effort to secure a prominent ministerial position for him within the Tinubu administration.
