Omenaa Mensah, a notable philanthropist recognized for her impactful contributions across Europe, has recently inaugurated the Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex in Accra, Ghana. This facility aims to provide comprehensive care encompassing sports and arts for at-risk children, particularly street children, in the region. The groundbreaking ceremony was graced by an array of dignitaries, including Geoffrey Tamakloe from Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, and Polish Deputy Minister of Culture Marta Cienkowska. Additionally, internationally renowned figures such as former NBA player Pops Mensah-Bonsu and prominent Polish fitness trainer Ewa Chodakowska attended the event, reflecting a global commitment to the initiative. As the Omenaa Foundation celebrates a decade of service, the complex stands as a significant milestone in their ongoing mission to uplift disadvantaged youth through holistic development.
During the inauguration, Omenaa Mensah articulated her profound vision for the Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex, highlighting it as a dream come true. Emphasizing the importance of self-belief and opportunity creation, she stated that the project transcends just sports and art; it embodies the aspiration to empower Ghana’s youth to dream big and succeed. The presence of influential ambassadors like Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Ewa Chodakowska signifies the project’s focus on inspiring the children through sports and creative expression. The complex will feature state-of-the-art facilities including basketball and football fields, tennis courts, and an art therapy center, creating an environment conducive to personal growth and artistic expression.
The initiative also enjoys the support of ambassadors from various fields who are committed to enhancing children’s lives in Ghana. Pops Mensah-Bonsu, a former NBA player of Ghanaian descent, runs the Seed Academy, which serves as a platform for teaching basketball to local youth. Ewa Chodakowska’s involvement is similarly pivotal; her successful “Great Emotions” initiative, which has raised significant funds through charitable auctions for the complex’s construction, underscores her commitment to transforming lives through fitness. The partnership with Larry Amponsah, a Ghanaian multimedia artist, furthers the project’s artistic vision, ensuring a multifaceted approach to child development.
The Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex represents a continuation of the Omenaa Foundation’s legacy of supporting vulnerable children in Ghana. Established in 2014, the foundation has focused on providing comprehensive assistance, including education and cultural activities for children from orphanages and those affected by child labor. The previously launched Kids Haven School in 2021 has successfully offered a safe haven and education for children rescued from exploitative conditions. The complex will enhance these efforts by allowing school residents to hone their artistic and athletic abilities while receiving necessary medical and psychological support.
The foundation’s commitment extends beyond local developments. Through partnerships with Ghanaian organizations, the complex intends to facilitate international exchange programs. These programs will bring in Polish professionals in medicine and the arts to collaborate with local entities, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and cultural understanding aimed at promoting youth welfare. Such collaborations not only strengthen community ties but also provide invaluable experiences for children, enhancing their exposure to global perspectives.
The Omenaa Foundation organizes an annual luxury charity event known as the TOP CHARITY Auction, which draws influential business leaders, artists, and collectors together to raise vital funds for transformative initiatives targeting vulnerable children across both Europe and Africa. This high-profile gathering underscores the foundation’s commitment to supporting young artists and children in need. Through initiatives like the Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex, the Omenaa Foundation is steadfast in its mission to create pathways for children to thrive, providing them with the opportunities and support necessary to achieve their dreams.
