The Ondo State Contributory Health Commission (ODCHC) celebrated its sixth anniversary, marking significant strides in expanding healthcare access for vulnerable populations. The commission’s flagship program, the Abiyamo Maternal and Child Health Insurance Scheme, has provided coverage for over 55,557 pregnant women and children under five, a testament to its commitment to safeguarding maternal and child health. This scheme has facilitated over 18,305 births, including 5,107 Cesarean sections, highlighting its crucial role in supporting complex deliveries. Furthermore, the program’s success extends to multiple births, recording 436 sets of twins, 11 sets of triplets, and even two sets of quadruplets, demonstrating its comprehensive support for diverse family structures.

The ODCHC’s impact goes beyond maternal and child health, extending its reach to encompass vulnerable individuals across the state. Since October 2021, the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund Programme has enrolled 82,662 vulnerable persons, including widows, the elderly, women of reproductive age, and children under five, demonstrating the commission’s commitment to inclusivity. This program’s targeted approach has ensured support for marginalized groups, providing coverage for 203 orphans, 2,517 people with disabilities, and 404 individuals battling sickle cell disease, highlighting its focus on addressing specific health needs. The commission’s comprehensive service provision includes specialized care, notably renal dialysis, with 18 beneficiaries currently receiving regular sessions, further showcasing its dedication to providing essential medical services.

The ODCHC’s Orange Health Insurance Scheme (ORANGHIS) caters to public servants and their dependents, ensuring access to quality healthcare for this vital segment of the population. With 103,738 enrollees currently benefiting from ORANGHIS, the scheme has facilitated over 1,366 surgeries in less than three years, demonstrating its effectiveness in providing timely and necessary surgical interventions. This accomplishment underscores the commission’s commitment to improving healthcare access for state employees and their families. Furthermore, the ODCHC’s ambitious goal of reaching one million enrollees within the next two years reflects its proactive approach to expanding healthcare coverage and improving the well-being of Ondo State residents.

The Abiyamo scheme, as a cornerstone of the ODCHC, underscores the commission’s dedication to maternal and child health. By providing comprehensive coverage for pregnant women and children, the scheme has contributed significantly to reducing maternal and child mortality rates, a crucial indicator of a healthy society. The scheme’s success in facilitating thousands of births, including complex deliveries, demonstrates its essential role in ensuring safe motherhood and healthy childhoods. Moreover, the inclusion of multiple births within the scheme’s coverage highlights its commitment to supporting diverse family structures and providing equitable access to healthcare.

The expansion of healthcare coverage to vulnerable populations through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund Programme signifies the ODCHC’s commitment to social equity. By targeting marginalized groups such as orphans, people with disabilities, and individuals with sickle cell disease, the commission addresses specific health needs and reduces healthcare disparities. This inclusive approach ensures that even the most vulnerable members of society have access to essential medical services, promoting a healthier and more equitable society. Furthermore, the provision of specialized care, including renal dialysis, underscores the commission’s dedication to providing comprehensive healthcare services to those in need.

The ORANGHIS initiative, focused on public servants and their dependents, recognizes the importance of providing accessible and quality healthcare for this critical segment of the population. By ensuring that state employees and their families have access to necessary medical services, including surgical interventions, the scheme contributes to a healthier and more productive workforce. The significant number of surgeries performed under ORANGHIS demonstrates its effectiveness in providing timely and crucial medical care.
