The Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, has embarked on a significant restructuring of its governance framework since 2019, establishing 21 new agencies to enhance efficiency and address specific socio-economic needs. This strategic move, announced by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, reflects the administration’s commitment to institutional development as a cornerstone of its legacy. Rather than solely focusing on infrastructural projects, Governor Makinde aims to create robust, sustainable institutions that will continue to serve the state long after his tenure. This approach emphasizes building a strong foundation for good governance and ensuring that critical areas receive focused attention and resources.

The newly established agencies cover a wide spectrum of critical areas, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to governance. These include the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency, tasked with combating corruption and ensuring accountability within the government; the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, which has played a key role in attracting significant investments to the agricultural sector; the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, responsible for enhancing security and addressing the pressing issue of banditry; and the Agency for Youth Development, focused on empowering the youth and providing them with opportunities for growth and development. These agencies, among others, represent the government’s commitment to addressing key challenges and investing in the future of the state.

The establishment of these agencies reflects a strategic allocation of responsibilities and resources, aligning with the specific needs of the state. The Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities focuses on promoting inclusivity and ensuring that the needs of this vulnerable population are addressed. The Oyo State Anti-Land Grabbing Agency tackles the issue of land disputes and protects property rights. The Oyo State Rule of Law Authority reinforces the principles of justice and fairness. The Oyo State Investment Promotion Agency actively seeks to attract investments and stimulate economic growth. The Oyo State Agency for Digital Innovation and Technology drives technological advancement and promotes digital literacy. The Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency ensures accountability and efficient utilization of resources. The Oyo State Sexual & Gender-Based Violence Response Agency addresses critical issues of gender-based violence and provides support to victims. The Rural Access Road Agency focuses on improving rural infrastructure and connecting communities. Each agency plays a crucial role in addressing specific challenges and contributing to the overall development of the state.

Governor Makinde’s vision extends beyond simply creating agencies; he aims to foster institutions that are robust and resilient, capable of navigating the complexities of governance and effectively achieving their objectives. This long-term perspective underscores the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and ensuring that the foundations for progress are firmly established. The establishment of these agencies represents not just a structural change, but a fundamental shift in the approach to governance, prioritizing institutional strength and long-term impact over short-term gains.

Further demonstrating this commitment to effective delegation and collaboration, key ministries and agencies have been entrusted to the Deputy Governor. These include essential portfolios such as Education, Agriculture, Establishment & Training, and the Ministry of Special Duties, alongside critical agencies like the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency and the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency. This significant delegation of responsibility underscores the trust and confidence placed in the Deputy Governor and reflects a collaborative approach to governance, maximizing the expertise and capacity within the administration. This unprecedented allocation of responsibilities to the Deputy Governor further reinforces the commitment to efficient and effective governance.

The Oyo State Government’s proactive engagement with media organizations, such as the courtesy call received from Dominion Television, highlights the importance of communication and transparency in disseminating information about government initiatives and achievements. This collaborative approach ensures that the public is well-informed about the government’s activities and understands the positive impact of these initiatives on their lives. By fostering open communication and engaging with media outlets, the government aims to build trust and strengthen its relationship with the citizens of Oyo State. This ongoing dialogue serves to keep the public informed and engaged in the process of governance.
