The Governing Council of Tamale Technical University (TaTU) has announced the appointment of Professor Abdul-Manan Dauda as the new Pro Vice-Chancellor, effective from October 21, 2024. This decision follows the recommendation of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Search Committee, which was presented during the Council’s 12th meeting on September 13, 2024. Professor Dauda will succeed Professor Bashiru Imoro Saeed, the current Vice-Chancellor, whose term concluded in June 2024. The Council’s decision highlights their commitment to ensure experienced leadership within the university as it navigates the complexities of academic administration and strategic development.

Professor Dauda has been an integral part of TaTU since 2001 and has held numerous important positions within the university. Prior to this new role, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Built and Natural Environment. His previous administrative roles include Acting Vice-Chancellor from 2018 to 2020 and Vice-Rector of the former Tamale Polytechnic from 2016 to 2018. Furthermore, from 2012 to 2016, he was the Dean of Students, showcasing his extensive involvement in various aspects of university management and academic affairs, which will be invaluable in his new position.

The university community has warmly welcomed this announcement, with the Council, staff, and student body offering congratulations to Professor Dauda. In a show of support, they expressed their commitment to assist him in fulfilling the university’s developmental goals and enhancing educational quality during his tenure. The Alumni Association also praised the Council for their decision, emphasizing their confidence in Professor Dauda’s ability to lead effectively. Such widespread support reflects the high expectations for his role and the collective desire to advance the university’s mission.

In his acceptance of the new role, Professor Dauda thanked the university’s Council, management, and staff for their trust and expressed determination to collaborate closely with them to foster the university’s mission. He acknowledged the urgent need for development within the institution and emphasized his commitment to shaping future leaders for Ghana. Professor Dauda is well-equipped for this role, holding an extensive academic background, which includes a Ph.D. in Architectural Science from Tianjin University, China, and a bachelor’s degree as well as a postgraduate degree in Architecture from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. His academic interests lie in sustainable design, environmental planning, and construction consultancy. Additionally, he has been recognized for his academic contributions, including receiving a Staff Development scholarship for his doctoral studies. His blend of practical and theoretical expertise in architecture and construction management positions him as a knowledgeable leader.

As an accomplished academic, Professor Dauda has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and has actively participated in both national and international conferences. He has also supervised over 150 theses and dissertations, further showcasing his commitment to nurturing the next generation of scholars. As a practicing architect and member of two professional organizations, his career, which spans over two decades, includes diverse projects across various sectors like residential, commercial, and sports planning. His wealth of experience, combined with the support of TaTU’s vibrant community, stands to benefit the institution significantly as it moves toward its aspirational goals.
