The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a veterinary doctor, David Tom, for his alleged involvement in a burglary and theft amounting to N24 million. The incident unfolded at River View Estate in Isheri Olofin, where Tom, acting as a temporary caretaker for the homeowner’s security dogs, reported a break-in. However, investigations later pointed to Tom himself as the prime suspect in the crime, leading to his arrest and subsequent interrogation by the police.
The events began on December 29, 2024, when the estate’s security guard received a report from the chairman, Abayomi Akindele, about a possible burglary at the residence of Captain Anyanwu Emmanuel. The homeowner, Captain Emmanuel, was away at his village at the time, having entrusted his house key to David Tom, his veterinary assistant, to look after his security dogs. Tom was tasked with the responsibility of caring for the animals during Captain Emmanuel’s absence.
On December 28, 2024, David Tom contacted Captain Emmanuel, claiming that he had discovered the house burgled upon his arrival at the property around 9:45 a.m. This prompted Captain Emmanuel to return from his village trip on December 30, 2024, to assess the situation. Upon his return, the true extent of the theft became apparent, revealing a staggering loss of approximately N24,961,200 worth of property.
The initial report of the burglary by David Tom raised suspicions, eventually leading investigators to focus on him as a potential suspect. Given his access to the property and his seemingly coincidental discovery of the alleged break-in, Tom became the focal point of the police investigation. The details surrounding Tom’s narrative and his relationship with Captain Emmanuel prompted a deeper examination of his involvement in the incident.
Following the homeowner’s return and the assessment of the stolen property, the Ogun State Police Command, under the Ojodu Division, launched a thorough investigation into the matter. This investigation included tracking down David Tom and taking him into custody for questioning. The police spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed Tom’s arrest and the ongoing investigation into the burglary and theft.
As the investigation progresses, the police are working to gather evidence and build a strong case against the suspect. Odutola stated that upon completion of the preliminary investigation, David Tom will be formally charged in court to face legal proceedings related to the alleged burglary and theft. The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice is served in this case.
